Hay-on-Wye
is a small town on the border of England and Wales and has a rich history dating back to pre-Roman times. The name Hay (or Haia) means a field and the Wye is the river that meanders lazily through it.
The little town of
Hay-on-Wye
has over 40 bookshops and is known as the "Second-hand Book Capital" of the World. Books can also be purchased from the open-air Honesty Bookshop, which is located in the grounds of the Hay-on-Wye Castle. The books are available on open shelves 24 hours a day. When you've made your choice, you just put your money into the collecting box.

Crafts are also well represented in Hay-on-Wye with a small craft centre situated by the main carpark. Throughout the town you will find craftspeople specialising in Jewellery, Pottery, Painting, Glass Blowing to name a few.
